Abstract

<PICT:0928143/III/1> A method of proofing (i.e. testing) the colour of a printing ink comprises depositing a measured quantity on an inking surface of known area, rolling the ink to form a uniform layer, coating a transfer element from said layer, applying the transfer element to a sheet of the stock to be printed and removing it so as to leave an imprint of the colour on the stock. A kit for carrying out the process includes a receptacle 11, an inking surface comprising a glass plate 14, ink-measuring means comprising a bar 22 having holes 25 of different sizes therein and a roller 30 serving also as transfer element. The roller may be of steel coated with hard rubber having a skin of soft rubber.
