Abstract

927,958. Moulding compact bodies. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. July 17, 1961, No. 25829/61. Class 87(2). Compact bodies of high density are formed in a cavity 26 in a die member 24 made of resilient elastomeric material, by introducing the material in the form of small solid particles 32 into the cavity and compressing the die member while allowing sideways expansion thereof. The thickness of the die walls is not less than half the width of the cavity. The die member may be made of natural or synthetic rubber or synthetic resins or mixtures thereof. The particles compressed may be metals, metalloids, metal oxides, magnetic oxides, ceramics, metal hydrides, carbides or nitrides, or mixtures thereof.
