Abstract

Refractory inorganic oxide pellets are formed with 0,5-6% of a polyvinyl compound as binding agent and die lubricant and the formed pellets are then heated to above 500 DEG C. thereby removing the polyvinyl compound. Reference is made to polyvinyl alcohol, acetal and esters. The examples are confined to forming alumina pellets with polyvinyl alcohol additive and comparison is made with similar pellets containing hydrogenated cottonseed oil. The alumina may contain 30-60% of the trihydrate and the pellets may be used as a catalyst carrier. Reference is made to oxides of Si, Zr, Th, Ti and B and impregnation with Pt, Pd, Ir, Fe, Co, Ni, Mo, Cd, Mg, Na and K is mentioned.
