Abstract

927,202. Contact lenses. DOW CORNING CORPORATION. March 16, 1962 [April 12, 1961], No. 10181/62. Class 97 (1). A contact lens has at least part of its total surface area coated with an optically clear coating of a protein or polysaccharide to render the surface hydrophilic. Examples of coatings are ovalkumin, avian egg white, lactalbumin, legumin, edestir, zein, globin, salmine, casein, vitillin, mucoid, mucin, gelatin, agar, gum arabic, pectin and liquid potato extract. The lenses may be made from glass, silicone rubber, polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene. The coating may be applied in any suitable manner. Specification 783,867 is referred to.
