Abstract
Synthetic linear polycondensation products are melt spun, and the spun threads are wetted, e.g. with an aqueous emulsion of a finishing agent, and wound into a thread roll which is transferred to an envelope or container serving to protect the thread from the atmosphere, until the thread roll is subsequently unwound <PICT:0926596/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0926596/IV(a)/2> from an envelope or container on a drawtwisting machine. A polyethylene bag may be used as a container. Preferably the thread roll is kept in a container provided with a thread discharge opening, especially a thread guiding eyelet, until and during unwinding prior to drawing, the thread discharge opening being closed during storage and transport. As shown, a thread roll or bobbin 11 may be stored in a box 18 fitted with conical lid 19 having a thread guiding eyelet 20. Unwinding of the thread is facilitated by the thread guiding disc 21, secured by clamp 22 to cylindrical core 24, fixed to the base 23. In the subsequent draw-twisting operation, the thread 9 passes over pin 10, via the traversing thread guide 14 and around pressure roller 12, feed roller 8 and draw pins 15 to draw godet 16 and associated guide roller 17 and thence via eyelet 7 to the ring-twister 3. In an example a polyamino caproic acid filament is melt-spun, wetted with an aqueous emulsion of a finishing agent, wound up and stored in a box prior to subsequent draw-twisting from the box at 20 DEG C. and 65% relative humidity. The thread was drawn 3,12 times its original length at 380 m./min. Thread so treated shows fewer faults per package than that processed by conventional methods.
