839,368. Unwinding yarns. REINERS, W. May 9, 1956 [May 10, 1955], No. 14489/56. Classes 120(2) and 142(1) [Also in Groups XXXV and XL(b)] Thread drawn endwise off a bobbin 1 passes over or through a guide 2 on the axis of and displaced from the end of the bobbin 1, the distance a between the guide and the bobbin being automatically reduced in accordance with the stage of unwinding, i.e. diameter of package or length of cop. Preferably the distance a is so reduced as to result in the minimum thread tension. Apparatus for carrying out the invention comprises control means responsive to variations in bobbin diameter or thread tension or to the time of unwinding, the length unwound, the weight of unwinding or take-up bobbin, the revolution of the bobbin or in accordance with a predetermined law. Where the control means is responsive to the bobbin diameter this may be measured by a beam of light, a jet of air, a photo-electric cell, electric capacity or electric resistance. The guides for a plurality of bobbins, e.g. in a warping machine, may be regulated simultaneously. In one embodiment, Fig. 8, the tension of the thread F is varied by a lever 24, which in the event of breakage completes a contact 27 for disconnection purposes.
