Abstract
926,538. Measuring fluid flow. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Dec. 28, 1959 [Jan. 2, 1959; Feb. 3, 1959], No. 44025/59. Class 69 (1). An axial flow fluid mass flowmeter of the two-element angular momentum type having a housing with a bore 52 formed therein comprises a fluid accelerating impeller so disposed in the bore, drive means 36, 45, 46 for the impeller, a resiliently restrained turbine 68, and positionsensing means 58 operatively connected to the turbine, wherein the impeller surrounds the position sensing means, and the impeller drive means are located in generally parallel spaced relation to the impeller and turbine axes. The incoming fluid enters impeller conduits 65 from conduits 53, where the fluid has an angular momentum imparted to it, the fluid then passing into conduits 70 in a cylindrical drum 69 which rotates against a spring, so that all the angular momentum is removed from the fluid. Rotation of the turbine is transmitted to a synchrosystem 58 by means of magnetic polepieces 96, 94 attached to the synchro-system and turbine respectively. The deflection of the drum 69 is proportional to the mass flow of the fluid through the device.
