Abstract

926,139. Corrugating. RICHARD THOMAS & BALDWINS Ltd. April 13, 1961 [Jan. 22, 1960], No. 2440/60. Class 83 (4). A process for corrugating sheet metal comprises passing the sheet between a pair of intermeshing squirrel-cage structures which are rotated about parallel axes, each squirrel-cage structure including cylindrical bars parallel to its axis which engage the sheet metal and produce the corrugations by a forming operation. Metal sheet 41, placed on a table 15, is fed to co-operating squirrel-cage structures 7 by pushers 24 reciprocated by cranks 34. Corrugated sheet 41<SP>11</SP> is carried away on a conveyer 45. Each structure 7 comprises groups 8-11 of cylindrical corrugating bars 12, adjacent groups being separated by a guide bar 47 to prevent defective sheets from following the cage round. Each group of bars 12 is carried on radial arms 63, Fig. 4, adjustable on end plate 61 keyed on a driven shaft 3. Alternatively, the bars 12 may be supported on the shaft 3 by adjustable radial screw means 71, Fig. 7. The shafts 3 are adjustable to and from each other by spindles 55.
