Abstract

926,075. Refrigeration; tubular heat-exchangers. PHIL RICH MFG. CO. Inc. July 14, 1961 [Jan. 3, 1961], No. 25559/61. Classes 29 and 64 (3). A heat exchange assembly forming, for example, the condenser or evaporator of a refrigeration system comprises strips having spaced parallel tubular portions 17 and intervening web portions 16 which are wound helically about a vertical axis. In the embodiment illustrated, two bush strips 14 and 15 are wound into helices of progressively diminishing radius to form a conical condenser and are supplied with refrigerant from an inlet header 21 connected to a compressor 13. An outlet header 26 is provided and air is forced over the heat exchange surfaces by means of a fan 12. The strips are preferably formed by an extrusion process and it is stated that resistance to air flow between the strips is reduced by arranging the tubular portions of the strips in the illustrated staggered relationship.
