A propulsion unit for steering watercraft includes two propellers 6 and 6<SP>1</SP> arranged in a transverse bow duct 9 and driven in the same or opposite directions through a differential gear 4 by the motor 1, e.g. an electric motor. The gear 4 and propeller shafts are enclosed in a housing 7 which is filled with oil under superatmospheric pressure.
