Abstract

925,189. Lens turret cameras. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 14, 1959 [Aug. 22, 1958], No. 26986/58. Class 97 (1). A camera has means for moving a lens carrier to bring a selected lens into operative position and means for varying the length of the light path between the operative lens and the image-receiving surface so as to focus a scene transmitted by the operative lens, both means being coupled to a single adjusting member in such a manner that during one part of the movement of the adjusting member only the focusing means is operative. The camera may be a television camera having a rotatable lens turret and a pickup tube axially displaceable for focusing. As shown, the turret 3 is rotatable by a shaft 5 carrying the driven element 17 of a Geneva movement, the driving element being a crank-pin 11 rotatable by a shaft 1. This crank-pin is also connected through a pivoted bell-crank lever 12 to a carriage 6 supporting a pick-up tube 7. Rotation of pin 11 from the position shown first moves carriage 6 to its extreme left position. Pin 11 then engages a slot 18 in element 17 and rotates this element to change the operative lens, carriage 6 being moved during such rotation to its extreme right-hand position. For the remainder of the revolution element 17 remains stationary while carriage 6 continues to move towards its central position. Notches 8 and a spring loaded bellcrank 9 index the turret in the correct positions, the bell-crank being released by a cam 19 as pin 11 engages a slot in element 17.
