Abstract
925,026. Adjusting brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Oct. 27, 1961 [July 27, 1960; May 11, 1961], Nos. 26067/60 and 17159/61. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXIV] Means for controlling relative movement between two members in a disc brake comprises a stop which is axially movable against frictional resistance, the stop being provided by a helically-coiled spring wire 17 in engagement with the surface of a bore in one of the members, e.g. a piston 10. Movement of the stop takes place when a force urging the other member on a part carried thereby into engagement with the stop exceeds a predetermined value. A sleeve 15 biased against the cylinder wall 11 by a spring 16 is slidably mounted on a fixed pin 13 possessing a head 14, a clearance A being left between an end of the sleeve and the head. Spring 17 co-operates with a recess in sleeve 15 so that, if piston 10 travels a greater distance than A in a brake application, spring 17 is moved against its frictional forces, to a new position. A second embodiment comprises a hollow cylindrical spigot possessing an annular groove of trapezoidal cross-section which houses a toroidal coil spring which acts as the stop.
