Abstract

924,636. Laminates. GENTEX CORPORATION. Nov. 7, 1961 [Dec. 29, 1960], No. 39770/61. Class 140. A heat-reflective fabric suitable for clothing protective against nuclear flash or other infrared radiation comprises a base fabric 10 and a sandwich adhered thereto by an adhesive layer 18, the sandwich comprising a layer 12, which may be of polyacrylonitrile, polyvinylidene chloride, or polyamide resin but is preferably of polymeric linear terephthalate, having a film of metal such as aluminium or silver, preferably applied by vacuum deposition, on each side, the film 16 on the outer side being preferably 5-10 times as thick as the inner film 14. The adhesive 18 may comprise a neoprene composition containing aluminium powder as opacifier and antimony oxide as a fire retardant. The fabric 10 may be first coated with a primer comprising a neoprene composition or a phenolic resin modified with nitrile rubber. The fabric 10 may comprise (i) a warp of two-ply glass yams and a weft of glass yarn combined with a two-ply yarn of asbestos and cotton, or (ii) a warp of two-ply yarn of glass fibres and a weft two ends of glass fibre yarns and one end of two-ply asbestos and cotton yarns.
