Abstract

924,551. Fluid springs. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Dec. 15, 1959 [Dec. 24, 1958], No. 41624/58. Class 108(3). A fluid spring comprises a skirted piston 5 within a cylindrical member 3 with an annular flexible diaphragm 4 secured between them and a resilient circular section ring 8 positioned for rolling between the piston skirt and cylindrical member. The piston is closed by a plate 5e to form a hollow air container joined by hole 5a, 6a to an upper chamber formed between the rolling lobe diaphragm 4 and cap 2. The toroidal ring 8, preferably made of rubber, is under radial compression and limited in its axial movement by lip 3a and by annular projection 5f on the piston. Its function is to ensure free axial movement of the piston and also to reduce wear and vibration in the unit.
