Abstract
924,432. Identifying cable conductors. T.S.G. SEAWARD. Aug. 17, 1959 [Aug. 18, 1958], No. 26546/58. Class 37. A device for identifying conductors of a multiple cable comprises ten series resistors R 1 to R 10 connected between terminals 1 and C with terminals 2 to 10 connected to the junctions of successive resistors; the cable conductors being connected to terminals 1 to 10 and the cable armour, earth, or a spare circuit connecting common terminal C to terminal 28 at the far end of the cable in series with terminal 30, an ammeter 26, a source of E.M.F., a compensating resistor RC adjustable for testing long or high resistance cables, and a limiting resistance RL adjustable for full-scale meter deflection with 28, 30 short-circuited. Successive conductors are connected to terminals 30, so that they are successively identifiable by meter calibrating corresponding to the terminals of the resistance network to which such conductors are connected. Alternatively each resistance may be connected at one end to the common terminal and at the other to a specific cable conductor.
