A container 1 for sand, stones or the like has a lid 2 and arms 5 supporting an upright sleeve 6 in which is received a graduated mast 7 held by a screw 8 which mast is adjustably engageable with an upright telescopic element 9 which forms an assembly to co-operate with further elements to provide appliances for use in sports and gymnastics. As shown, the metal container 1 is secured to the ground by lugs 4. A goal for hand-ball or football, Fig. 2, comprises two assemblies whose elements 9 carry adjustable sleeves 13 carrying respectively telescoping elements 11, 12 locked together by screws. More than two telescoping elements may be used for the cross-bar. In a net carrier, Fig. 3, for tennis or volleyball, the net tensioning cord is connected at one end to a hook on one upright and at the other end is carried over a pulley 17 on the second upright 9 and secured to an adjustable ring 18 on this upright. The lower ends of the net are connected to sliding rings 18 on uprights 9. A net hooked on a ring connected to a sleeve attached to an upright 9 forms a baseball post (Fig. 4, not shown). A stabilizing plate 27 bearing on the ground may be provided at the foot of sleeve 6. Alternatively, Fig. 10, upright 9 carries a fitting including two nets 49, and a board 47. Props (broken lines, Fig. 10) may be provided. In a jumping stand 1, Fig. 7, two extra long uprights 9 each carry an adjustable ring 28 with a bearing plate 30 to support the bar and a cone pulley 32. For training, a flat rubber belt C with bands of colour carried on the pulleys 32, is used instead of the bar B. Parallel bars may be formed by using two of the hand-ball goals side-by-side and connected by struts. The bars may be removed and a horizontal ladder put in their place.
