Abstract
An exercising apparatus especially adapted for use for the muscular development of athletes and others and having a means of progressively increasing the force required as the exercising movement is performed and having an especially unique means of developing the muscles of not only the arms but the muscles of the entire body including the legs as well. Pulleys are positioned so as to guide a series of lines to different members of different weights in the form of chains enclosed in separated compartments so that the user may change the weight to be lifted.

Brown ABSTRACT: An exercising apparatus especially adapted for use for the muscular development of athletes and others and having a means of progressively increasing the force required as the exercising movement is performed and having an especially unique means of developing the muscles of not only the arms but the muscles of the entire body including the legs as well.
Pulleys are positioned so as to guide a series of lines to different members of different weights in the form of chains enclosed in separated compartments so that the user may change the weight to be lifted.
EXERCISING APPARATUS BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to an exercising apparatus and more particularly to an exercising apparatus thatseveral persons may use simultaneously or one at a time that utilizes weights of chain normally at rest so that as a line of cord or rope is drawn by the person exercising links of chain are lifted from the resting position a progressively greater force is required to do so.
An object of the invention is to provide a device readily adapted to schools, athletic clubs including the training of the athletes of the teams of the major sports in all categories that one of more may use at one time.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for body building that simulates the actual movement of throwing the javelin; throwing the disc; putting the shot; throwing a ball and the like by increasing the resistance as the respective movement progresses.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device as described of low cost, simple yet effective design for professional or amateur body building and muscular development.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as will be more fully described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout and in which:
FIG. 1, is a front elevation view of the invention with a portion of the front of a compartment broken away;
FIG. 2, is a side elevation view representative of how the invention is used; and
FIG. 3, is a cross section view of the chain compartments taken at approximately 3-3 of FIG. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawing there is provided generally rectangular shaped frame 10, FIGS. 1 and 2, of wood, metal, plastic or other suitable material having one or more long compartments 1] for containing suitable lengths of heavy link chain 12. The device is not to be limited to any certain number of units. other than a limit caused by the pulley arrangement, which is about six compartments per device.
A strong cord or rope 12 of nylon or other suitable material is securely attached to the chain as indicated in the compartment. who's front portion is shown broken away. The cord 12 extends upward to stationary pulley 13 at the upper L-shaped portion 14 of frame 10 where the direction is changed to extend at an angle downward to moveable pulley 14. A section of extra line 15. FIGS. 1 and 2, is provided so that the person 16 is allowed freedom of action.
It will be noted that hooks 17 are provided on posts 18 so that the moveable pulleys 14 may be raised or lowered to suit the height of the person exercising.
The hook 17 located at the bottom of posts are for exercis' ing the feet by placing the moveable pulley 14 at that position.
It is to be further noted that the chain compartments II are provided with doors at the lower end for maintenance and inspection or for changing the size and weight of the chains 12.
It will be further noted by those skilled in the particular art that the herewith described device could be constructed in various forms and still remain within the essence of the basic concept.
Having illustrated and described a preferred embodiment as well as variants of this invention, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that further changes and modification may become apparent. Such changes and modification are not to effect this instant concept and are to be considered within the scope and essence of this invention.
I claim:
1. In an exercising apparatus for muscular development comprising: weight members; a framework for receiving said members; said framework comprising separately enclosed compartments for said members; each of said members being fixed to a line reeved over fixed pulleys for manual manipulation thereabout; said framework further comprising means on spaced apart posts for receiving removably fixed pulleys that receive and guide said lines; said framework further comprising doors at the base of the framework for inspection of the weight members.
