Abstract

A multiple-part post 14 is attached to a base 16 which has lateral stabilizing members 17 and 18 and an upstanding stabilizing weight support post 19 on which stabilizing weights 21 are held by a collar 20. The post 14 may be in two or more parts which may be telescopically joined and it may be used either as a tennis net support post or a badminton net support post. When used for tennis the base 16 may be buried in the court below ground level with the post protruding upwardly from the base. In an alternative construction the post is inserted centrally in a disc-like stabilizing weight. <IMAGE>

Description

GAMES SUPPORT POST This invention relates to a games support post which may be used to support games apparatus in a variety of games Used in pairs it may be used to support tennis or badminton nets, used singly it may for instance to support a baseball or netball goal. Other uses are as football posts, but in principle the games support post according to the invention may be used for any game which requires a support post of any kind.
An object of -the invention is to provide ---a games support post which is inexpensive, simple to assemble, and portable.
In accordance with the present invention in its broadest-form a games support post is provided consisting of a tubular-post which may be telescopic in two or-mora parts, and a stabiliz-ing weight.
The stabilizing weight may be round and have a hole in the middle into which one end of the support post may be located.
Alternatively, the tubular support post may be attached to a base and a base may have an upstanding locating post for the stabilizing weight or weights.
The stabilizing weight or weights may be in the form of round metal or plastic covered concrete weights of a type which are commonly used for weight lifting. One or more weights may be held on the weight locating post by means of a clamp which again may be of the type --used to hold weights on the weight lifting bars.
Preferably the base has lateral stabilizing crossmembers and the weight locating post is attached to the base close to the games post.
By providing the post in two or more telescopic parts its use may be varied according to the requirements e.g. as a tennis net support post or a badminton net support post, depending upon the number of sections of a post which are assembled together.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is an elevation of a two part telescopic post and stabilizing weight embodying the present invention; Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of the stabilizing weight; Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of the invention in. which the games post is carried on a base; Figure 4 shows the post and base of Figure 3 turned on its side so that the post may be wheeled along on the weights; and Figure 5 shows an assembly of posts and net.
In Figure 1 is shown a two-part telescopic post comprising a lower part 10 and an upper 11 telescopically joined at 12. The lower part 10 fits into a stabilizing weight 13 which, as shown in Figure 2 has a central hole 14 to receive the lower end of post part 10.
The weight may be of a kind used in weight lifting i.e. may be made of metal or it may be plastic covered concerete or any similar material.
The upper part 11 has a reduced section 11A to receive one end of a badminton net which may be attached further down the post by a means of the usual ties or strings. When the upper part 11 is removed a similar reduced section part of the lower part of the post 10 is exposed which may receive a tennis net.
In Figure 3 a post 14 which may be a one or two or more part post is located on a plate 15 welded to a base 16 which has two transverse stabilizing members 17 and 18. On the base 16 is a weight locating post 19 adapted to receive two stabilizing weights, 21 held on to the stabilizing post 19 by a clamp 20. A clamp 20 may be of the type sometimes used to retain weights on weight lifting bars.
As seen in Figure 4, the base 16 may be turned on end so that-the stabilizing weights 21, may be-used as wheels, for wheeling the post along to facilitate movement of it. For this purpose the weights 21 may be loose fit on the stabilizing post 19. Figure 5 shows an assembly of two posts of the type shown in Figure 3 and a tennis net 22 supported by the posts.
The bases 16 may be sunk slightly into the ground at each end leaving only the stabilizing weights clear of the ground.
The whole structure may be relatively light in that the post 14 may be tubular and made for example of aluminium, and the base may be of hollow section material and therefore light in weight, the post being held and stabilized in position by the heavy weights 21.
The post may be in two or three parts, so as to provide the necessary height, for example for use with a netball goal. The ring and net of the netball goal may be attached to the top of the post on the reduced section llA shown in Figure 1.
Although a pair of weights are shown in Figure 3, an a single weight in Figure 1 the number of weights may be varied, One, two or three or more weights may be used depending on the volume and density of the weights.
