Abstract

922,086. Ankle supports. A. J. APFEL. July 3, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 22957/59. Class 81 (2). An ankle support for use with skating boots comprises a splint having means for securing to the wearer's leg and at its lower end a U-shaped bracket to engage a heel-supporting portion of a skate and a screw-threaded member for fastening the bracket to the skate. A strap 12 secures the splint to the wearer's leg, a padded plate 16 secured to the splint being interposed between the strap and the leg. At its lower end the splint is bent at right angles and rotatably carries a sleeve 24 which is attached to a U-shaped bracket 13. In use, the bracket is fitted around a heel support 26 of a skate and is secured by a wing nut 32 and a threaded bolt 34 which is fixed to a hinge 36 on the bracket and may be received by a pivoted cleat or slots 40 in the arms of the bracket.
