922,064. Hob plates. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Oct. 26, 1961 [Oct. 29, 1960], No. 37246/60. Class 126. A hob plate comprises a metal central portion 1 and a metal surround portion 8 which are separated by low thermally conducting and heat-resistant material 10. The central portion 1 is a sheet metal pressing supporting electric hot plates 2 and formed with spillage channels 6. A flat marginal portion 3 is embraced by a U- section gasket 10 of, for example, synthetic rubber. The hob plate surround portion 8 comprises a horizontal portion 8 to which bolts 5 are welded and inner and outer vertical portions 12 and 13 shielding the gasket. The bolts 5 extend through the limbs of the gasket, the central hob portion and a laminated work top 11 with a thermo-setting resin surface. Washers and nuts 18 clamp the assembly together. An L-shaped metal plate 15 is clamped between the gasket and work top to shield the edge 14 of the work top and the lower ends of the bolts from any heat emanating from the underside of the central hob portion 1. The bolt holes 4 and 19 in the central hob portion and in the heat shield are sufficiently larger than the bolts to avoid thermally conducting contacts. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the work top and heat shield are omitted and the outer hob portion forms the main assembly support.
