Abstract

Rubber is stabilized by incorporating therein triazines of formula <FORM:0922040/IV(a)/1> where X and Y are the same or different alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, alkylphenyl, alkylhydroxyphenyl, alkylhydroxybenzyl, cyanoalkyl, alkylmercaptoalkyl, carbalkoxyalkyl, or carbalkoxyphenyl groups, where Z is hydroxyphenyl, alkylhydroxyphenyl, phenylhydroxyphenyl or alkylhydroxybenzyl, and X, Y and Z are each independently bound to the ring carbon atom by <FORM:0922040/IV(a)/2> lower alkyl or -NH- and when Y is hydroxyphenylamino, alkylhydroxyphenylamino- or alkylmercapto and Z is alkylhydroxyphenylamino X can also be chlorine, while when X is alkylhydroxyphenylamino Y and Z can both also be chlorine and when X and Y are each independently an alkyl group of 1-18 C atoms bound to the ring as above Z can be also N-alkanoyl-alkyl-hydroxyphenylamino. Specified rubbers are polyisoprene, polybutadiene, butadiene-styrene, butyl, neoprene, nitrile and natural rubber. Long lists of suitable triazines are given including 6-(4-hydroxy-3-5-di-t-butylaniino)-2-4-bis-(n-octylthio) -1-3-5-triazine and similar compounds. The usual compounding and vulcanizing agents may also be present.
