The invention comprises compounds of the general formula wherein R 1 and R 2 each independently represent an alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, alkylphenyl, alkylhydroxyphenyl, alkylhydroxybenzyl, cyanoalkyl, alkylmercaptoalkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl or alkoxycarbonylphenyl group, R 3 represents a hydroxyphenyl, alkylhydroxyphenyl, phenylhydroxyphenyl or alkylhydroxybenzyl group, at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 representing an alkylhydroxyphenyl or alkylhydroxybenzyl group, and X, Y and Z each independently represent -S-, -O-, -NH-, -N- (C 1-6 alkyl) or -N-benzyl, and the preparation thereof by the processes of the examples, which consist in replacing the chlorine atoms in cyanuric chloride by reaction with R 1 XH, R 2 YH and R 3 ZH (or their alkali metal or ammonium derivatives in the case of OH or SH compounds), or reacting an OH or SH substituted triazine (or an alkali metal derivative thereof) with an R 1 , R 2 or R 3 halide. In the former of these processes, intermediates still containing one or two chlorine atoms are isolated in many cases. 2, 4-Bis-(ethylthio- and n-octylthio)-6-mercapto- 1, 3, 5-triazine are prepared by refluxing the corresponding 6-chloro compounds with thiourea in dioxan. 6-Hydroxy-2, 4-bis-(n-octylthio)-1, 3, 5-triazine is prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of the corresponding 6-chloro compound. 4-Amino-2, 6-di-t-butylphenol is prepared by reduction with sodium hydrosulphite of 4- nitroso-2, 6-di-t-butylphenol, obtained by reacting 2, 6-di-t-butylphenol with sodium nitrite in ethanol saturated with hydrogen chloride. 4-Hydroxy-3, 5-di-t-butylbenzyl chloride is prepared by reacting 2, 6-di-t-butylphenol with formalin and hydrogen chloride in the presence of anhydrous zinc chloride. 4-(N-Benzylamino)-2, 6-di-t-butylphenol is prepared by catalytic hydrogenation of 4-(N-benzylideneimino)-2, 6-di-t-butylphenol, obtained by condensing 4-amino-2, 6-di-t-butylphenol with benzaldehyde. N-Methyl-4-hydroxy-3, 5-di-t-butylbenzylamine is prepared by reacting 2, 6-di-t-butylphenol with formalin and methylamine.
