Abstract

Olefins are obtained by the partial oxidation of a paraffin containing at least 4 carbon atoms wherein the initial molecular ratio of oxygen to hydrocarbon is 0,05-0,30:1 and the temperature is 500 DEG -650 DEG C. The contact time may be 0,1-20 seconds after which the products are chilled; where the desired products are gaseous, liquid products are recycled. The olefine products are alpha-olefins and are formed by cracking or by dehydrogenation, in which case practically no isomerization occurs.
