Abstract
921,751. Anti-reflecting coatings. BUSH & RANK CINTEL Ltd. Oct. 13, 1959 [Oct, 14, 1958], No. 32718/58. Class 97 (1). Reduced surface reflection within a desired waveband is obtained by applying to the transparent body first and third layers of a material of higher index than the body and second and fourth layers of a material of lower index than the body, the total thickness of the first and third layers being equal to # 1 /2 (# 1 being a wavelength within the chosen band), the thickness of the fourth layer being # 2 /4 (# 2 also being a wavelength within the band and differing from # 1 ) and the thickness of the second layer being proportional to the excess of the refractive index of the material forming this layer over the square root of the index of the body such that a desired variation of reflection with wavelength is obtained. The high index material may be cerium oxide and the low index material magnesium fluoride. The Specification contains spectral curves indicating the variation of reflection with wavelength.
