Abstract

921,711. Counting - apparatus. W. C. HERAEUS G.m.b.H. July 14, 1959 [July 14, 1958], No. 24213/59. Class 106 (1). In apparatus for counting bodies moving in a gas-tight system, the bodies are fed singly from a container 1 into a tube 2 in which they pass a testing device 4, for testing the density or radioactivity of the bodies before being discharged into a receiving container 3. Disposed on either side of the testing device 4 are coils 5, 6 surrounding the tube 2, the coils being connected to the arms of a bridge circuit 7 which is connected to a device comprising counting and other devices 9. On passing the first coil 5, the bodies cause a positive pulse in the devices 9, which include a counter, and on passing the coil 6, a negative pulse is produced. A check is thus obtained on whether all the bodies which have entered the testing device 4 have left it. The devices at 9 may include a time delay measuring device adapted to actuate an alarm if the interval between the pulses is greater than a certain predetermined amount. The bodies to be counted, which may be of radio-active material, contain sufficient electrically-conductive material to affect the inductance of the coils 5, 6. By employing devices counting the number of bodies entering and leaving a system, the number of bodies in the system may be checked.
