Abstract
The invention comprises dyestuffs or mixtures of dyestuffs which, in the form of the free acids, have the formula:- <FORM:0921050/IV(a)/1> where Pc is a phthalocyanine radical, R1 and R2 are each hydrogen, a hydrocarbon radical or a hydroxy alkyl radical or R1 and R2 together with the nitrogen atom form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, X is chlorine or bromine, A is hydroxy, chlorine or bromine and a, b and c are each values of from 1 to 2 provided that a+b+c does not exceed 4. The phthalocyanine radicals include metal-free, cobalt, nickel and copper phthalocyanine radicals. The dyes are made by treating an aqueous suspension of a sulphochloride of the formula:- <FORM:0921050/IV(a)/2> when n is a value from 0 to 2 and d is a value from 2 to 4 provided that n+d does not exceed 4, with a compound of the formula:- <FORM:0921050/IV(a)/3> and with a compound of the formula:- <FORM:0921050/IV(a)/4> and hydrolysing those sulphochloride groups which have not been converted to sulphonamide groups. Amines which are specified are, on the one hand, ammonia, methylamine, dimethylamine, ethylamine, p-hydroxyethylamine, cyclohexylamine, benzylamine, aniline, di-(b -hydroxyethyl)amine, N - methyl - N - b - hydroxyethylamine, N-methylglucamine, piperidine and morpholine and on the other hand, g -chloro-b -hydroxypropylamine, g -bromo-b -hydroxypropylamine and b :g -dichloro- or dibromopropylamine. The dyes dye, pad or print cellulose textile materials in conjunction with a treatment with an acid-binding agent and colour wool, silk, leather, synthetic polyamides and polyacrylonitriles from a weakly alkaline, neutral or acid solution giving greenish-blue shades. The Provisional Specification also refers to dyes of the above general formula wherein a is 0, 1 or 2 and b and c are each 1, 2 or 3, provided that a+b+c does not exceed 4 and that when a is 0 at least one of R1 and R2 is hydrogen.
