Abstract

920,259. Control of A.C. motors. M. TESSIE-SOLIER, and C. CURIE. June 30, 1969, No. 22503/59. Class 38 (3). [Also in Group XXXV] The rotor windings of an induction motor 34 are connected to a rectifier 35 having output lines 31, 32, connected to an inverter 11-13 which is coupled to source 1, 2, 3 through transformer 4 and which is controlled in accordance with the speed and torque of the motor. A speed-measuring voltage is applied to potentiometes 39 and is compared with a reference voltage from potentiometer 41, the error signal being applied to the grid of valve 24. The cathode of this valve is returned to earth through potentiometer 21 which introduces a rotor current (or torque) measuring signal in addition to the speedresponsive signal. The combined signal is amplified to control valve 45 having cathode load resistor 46. The control signal for the inverter 11-13 are developed across lines 29, 30 and is equal to the difference between the currents delivered by valves 45, 47, the latter having a cathode resistor 48 and having its bias adjusted by reference potentiometer 49. Current transformers 8-10 provide a torque-measuring voltage to potentiometers 21, 22, a valve 23 acting as a torque-limiter in accordance with the adjustment of potentiometer 25. In another arrangement, the rotor frequency provides an indication of the speed of the motor independent of the load. A signal derived from a transformer in the rotor circuit is passed through a filter circuit to two clipper stages. The amplified signal is then transmitted to an integrating circuit by a differentiating network, the direct-current output of the integrator being associated with the frequency of the pulses supplied thereto and representing the motor speed, Fig. 3 (not shown). The motor may be operated with a constant power characteristic. The power returned to the mains may be controlled when the motor operates as an electrodynamic brake.
