Abstract
919,517. Temperature and like alarm systems. GSTALDER, R. June 4, 1959 [June 4, 1958], No. 19154/59. Class 118. [Also in Group XXVIII] In a system for detecting, indicating and locating liquid or gas leaks or excessive temperatures, e.g. along a pipe-line, two conductors f 1 and f 2 (Fig. 1) of which at least one is insulated, are bound together at least at closely spaced points and laid along the length to be protected. The insulating material chosen is such that the leaking gas or liquid or the rise in temperature breaks down the insulation between the conductors f 1 , f 2 , thus completing a circuit for a relay E which operates visual and audible alarms V, S. The location of the fault is also indicated on a resistance-measuring electric or electronic meter M. The conductors f 1 , f 2 may be held parallel to each other or twisted together and may be separated by the insulating material continuously or at intervals along their length and may be enclosed in a sheath of coiled wire or steel tape between the turns of which the gas or liquid can seep; alternatively, a single insulated conductor may be enclosed in an uninsulated earth-return sheath, the inner conductor being corrugated so as to contact the sheath.
