Abstract
919,024. Oil-break switches. REYROLLE & CO. Ltd., A. June 8, 1959 [June 9, 1958], No. 18428/58. Class 38 (5). The operating mechanism of an oil-break circuit-breaker comprises an operating shaft 21 carrying a crank 20 pivoted at 23 to a connecting-rod 22 of the same length, which in turn is pivoted at 24 to an insulating extension 16 of the moving contact 13. A pulley 25 is fixed to the rod 22 and is coupled to a fixed pulley 26 of twice its radius by a flexible band 27, so that on rotation of the shaft 21 the pulley 25 rolls round the band and the rod 22 turns relatively to the crank 20 through an angle opposite in direction to and twice that turned by the crank, to move the pivot 24 in a vertical straight line. The band 27 may comprise cables, steel strips or ropes and may be secured to a point on each pulley, which, when the amplitude of the operating movement is small, may be of arcuate form. If the operating movement is large, the band and pulleys may be replaced by a chain and sprocket wheels. In a modification, Fig. 2, sectors of external gears 30, 31 mesh with an idler 32 rotatably carried by the crank, the radius of the fixed sector 31 being twice that of the moving sector 30.
