Abstract
918,977. Cleaning devices for conveyers. MASSEY FERGUSON (UNITED KINGDOM) Ltd. May 29, 1959 [June 10, 1958], No. 18439/58. Class 78 (1). A cleaning device for a rotary or endless conveyer which has a load-carrying floor composed of a plurality of wires 12 extending in the direction of movement and which are interconnected by cross-bars 14, comprises a generally cylindrical member 23 having rows of radiallyextending fingers arranged such that successive rows of fingers extend into successive rows of spaces between the cross-bars 14 of the conveyer, the member 23 being rotated by the engagement of the bars 14 with the fingers, the rotation being controlled by friction means. The member 23 is formed by a series of wheels 32 each having radially extending fingers, the wheels being mounted on a splined hub 30 to ensure registration of the fingers on the various wheels. Hub 30 is mounted for rotation on a shaft 22. An axially sliding thrust block 37 is mounted on a squared portion 36 of shaft 22 and is urged by a spring 39 against a friction disc 38 secured to a clamping plate 34 of the member 23 so as to restrict free rotation of the latter. In a modified construction of the conveyer (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) the cross-bars 14 are tubular and the wires 12 are threaded through them. In both embodiments inwardly extending projections 15 are secured at intervals to the wires 12 to engage material supplied to the floor for elevation thereby to a higher level.
