[Also in Group XXX] Means for facilitating the net weighing of tobacco or the like comprises a tippler D for upending a cask or case on to a tray at the feedin station A, a feed runway, a track 1, on which the loaded tray travels to a weighing-machine B and a discharge runway, a track 1a on which the loaded tray travels to a tippler for upending the loaded tray at the discharge station and means for lifting the upended cask or case whilst on the feed runway leaving the contents on the tray for passing to the weighing-machine and means for transferring the upended empty cask or case in position over the contents of a tray after leaving the weighing-machine and whilst on the discharge runway. The upended cask travels on the tray from the tippler D along a roller track 1 to a station E where a jib crane 2 lifts the cask leaving the tobacco on the tray and deposits the cask on a turntable 3 between the two tracks 1, 1a. The tobacco advances on track 1 to the weighing-machine and returns on track 1a. A jib crane 4 lifts the cask from the turntable and places it on the tobacco and the tippler then turns over the cask, the filled cask then being moved to the discharge station. A short length of track 1a leads from the weighing-machine to a turntable 1b for changing the direction of travel of the tray to track la. When the tobacco is in cases a jib crane 5 at station H lifts the cases and places them on a roller track 6 feeding to a crane 7 which deposits the cases on the tobacco on the track 1a. The tippler (see Group XXX) runs on rails 23 in a pit 33 between the feed in and discharge stations A, C operated by a pneumatic ram.
