Abstract

918,313. Blasting cartridges. JAKOBSEN, K., and SEMB, T. K. Oct. 18, 1960 [Nov. 19, 1959], No. 35595/60. Class 9 (1). A method of blasting during mining operations wherein dynamite sticks are arranged in a desired linear pattern within a plastics sheath 17 prior to placing the sheath within a bore-hole and detonating the sticks. In Fig. 3 the sheath 17 is provided with a flange portion 18 and hook portion 19 which interengage to enclose the dynamite sticks, the flange member 20 ensuring that the sheath assumes a tubular form. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 the sheath has outwardly flared portions 22, 23, the sticks being gripped by the cylindrical portion of the sheath and the portions 22, 23 engaging with the wall of the bore-hole. Further embodiments are described wherein, for example, a clip is used to engage the flared portions 22, 23 so forming a closed tubular sheath. The ends of the sheath may be sealed to prevent moisture contaminating the explosive.
