A flushing cistern for a water closet pan or urinal incorporates a unit C through which air is displaced via a deodorant B (and a perforated access cap A) into the room with the fall and consequent rise of the water during flushing and refilling to deodorize the atmosphere and also an unit F-a ' plastic ' container-containing a hygienic liquid and so made as to have its capacity altered by the rise, succeeding the fall, of the water pressure G to exude some liquid into the flushwater and then refilling by about the same amount of water. In a modification the two units are combined to produce a combination of the actions of the two units on flushing.
