[Also in Group I] An appliance for mixing fuzzy cottonseed with a solid, powdered seed dressing, such as ethyl mercury chloride, comprises a preferably horizontal mixing conveyer provided with a worm 14 rotating in a cylindrical housing or trough 12 having, e.g., a hinged lid 13. A plurality of mixing rods 17 project, from the faces of the worm, towards the discharge end of the conveyer, indicated by a discharge pipe 33. The rods may be at or near the periphery of the worm and may project in a direction parallel to its longitudinal axis. The cottonseed is fed, from a hopper 18 through an opening 20 into the conveyer, by a rotating paddle wheel 21 located above the opening. One or more rotating spindles 22, having agitating arms 23, are provided in the hopper to assist the flow of cottonseed towards the paddle wheel. The seed dressing is carried, by a travelling endless belt 26, from a hopper 25 to an opening 31 leading into the mixing conveyer and is swept from the belt by a rotating brush 30. An adjustable shutter 29 is provided, above the belt to regulate the amount of dressing distributed to the cottonseed in the conveyer. The appliance may be used for treating cottonseed with liquid dressings. It is stated, in the Provisional Specification, that the trough may be inclined upwardly, at any angle up to about 30 degrees, towards its discharge aperture, and that distributers of the form described in Specification 882,652 may be used for distributing the powdered solid and liquid seed dressings.
