Abstract

917,396. Tumbler switches. WALSALL CONDUITS Ltd. May 18, 1960 [May 19, 1959], No. 16859/59. Class 38 (5). In a quick-make, slow-break, A.C. switch, a dolly 18, pivoted at 19 to a bridge member 17, actuates a U-shaped contact carrying member 26 pivoted at 25 in a fixed frame member 22, through an intermediary link 28 which is pivoted to the member 26 at 29 and to the dolly at 21. A compression spring 32 retained by a peg 33 bears at its lower end on a platform 31 which extends between the limbs of member 26 and, at its upper end, on a lug carried by member 22. The switch is shown closed and the spring opposes its opening movement ensuring a slow-break. In the switch-open position (Fig. 4, not shown) the pivot 21 moves just over the line of centres 19, 25 so that, in closing, after a short initial movement the spring ensures a quick make.
