917,383. Relaxation shrinkage of fabrics. COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION. April 4, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 11988/61. Class 106 (2). The relaxation shrinkage of a fabric sample 1, held between a fixed clip 3 and a clip 4 to which a tensioning string 5 is fastened, is measured by taking two readings of the length on the dial 9, with the sample held in tension by means of a constant-speed motor 10 and an eddy current drive 11, 12, before and after the sample has been wetted (by means of spray heads 17). During wetting the tension is relaxed. The first reading is taken for a given moisture content, controlled by an air-blower 13, heater 14 and thermostats 15, 16. After operation of the spray-heads, the moisture content is brought to the same value. The operational sequence is controlled by a uniselector with three banks of switches, the two thermostats and a thermal time-delay switch governing the steps. The first step of the uniselector is governed by a manual switch. A circuit diagram is given in the Specification.
