Abstract

A priming composition comprises a resinous copolymer of a diene and a vinyl compound together with a small proportion of an organic rubber vulcanization accelerator, the composition being dissolved or disposed in a liquid medium. The specified copolymer is a 40 butadiene-60 styrene copolymer, and water the liquid medium. Specified accelerators are mercaptothiazoles, alkyl dithiocarbamates, xanthates, mercaptans and guanidines. Part of the accelerator may be replaced by boric acid. Pigments such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide, lithopone, carbon black, umber, cadmium sulphide and ultramarine may also be present, e.g. in amounts from 10 to 100% by weight of the copolymer.
