Abstract

916,897. Spring supports. SUOZZO, L. S. Aug. 24, 1961, No. 30544/61. Class 108(3). A floor type seeing support, e.g. for piping, comprises a housing 6, 7, 8 with a coaxially arranged tubular plunger 25 having its lower end slidahly engaged over a guide tube 22 welded to the housing base plate 6, its upper end projecting through an opening 20 in the upper wall 8 of the housing and carrying a removably and rotatably mounted tubular height adjusting member 33 which threadedly receives the stem 22 of a load plate 31, the intermediate part having an integral backing plate 28 for a compression spring 24, the lower end of which is supported by the base plate 6. The head 35 of the height-adjusting member 33 has a number of circumferentially spaced bores 36 for engagement by a suitable tool, height adjustment being obtained by relative turning movement between the load plate 31 and the adjusting member 33. The housing side wall comprises two part-cylindrical wall parts 7, 7 which are spaced apart to define two windows 12 13, an indicator ;plate 14, which is positioned across the window 13 having preload and deflection scales 17, 18 which cooperate with a pointer 29 integral with the backing plate 28. The loading of the spring 24, the free height of which may 'be equal to or greater than the clear internal height of the housing may be precompressed to a desired cold-load position by inserting a tubing 37 of the required length through the window 12 and locating it between the upper wall 8 and the backing plate 28.
