Abstract

Carbon black containing chemically combined chlorine is produced by burning chlorine in an atmosphere of a hydrocarbon, e.g. methane, ethylene, or propane. Carbon black containing chemically combined chlorine and oxygen, bromine, nitrogen, sulphur, silicon, or boron is produced by the presence, in the hydrocarbon, of water, hydrogen bromide, ammonia, hydrogen sulphide, tetramethyl silane, or triethyl borane, respectively. Examples are given.
