Abstract

Polyurethane foams are obtained by mixing in one step (1) a polyether having at least 85% terminal primary hydroxyl groups, mol. wt. of 1,600 to 3,400 and a hydroxyl number of 50 to 160 and being a condensate of propylene oxide and an aliphatic polyhydroxy compound having at least 3 hydroxyl groups; (2) a stabilizer of polydimethyl siloxane or siloxaneoxyalkylene block copolymers; (3) the diisocyanate of toluene or m-xylylene; (4) water, and (5) a basic catalyst containing a tertiary nitrogen atom. Up to 30% of the polyether can be a condensate of propylene oxide with ammonia or aliphatic amines. Up to 25% (relative to the polyether) of a polyether glycol or a linear polyester may be mixed with the polyether. Lists of suitable components are given and include conventional tertiary amine catalysts.ALSO:Polyether-polyurethane foams are obtained by mixing in one step (1) a polyether having at least 85% terminal primary hydroxyl groups, a molecular weight of 1600 to 3400 and a hydroxyl number of 50 to 160 and being a condensate of propylene oxide and an aliphatic polyhydroxy compound having at least 3 hydroxyl groups; (2) a stabilizer of polydimethyl siloxane or siloxane-oxyalkylene block co-polymers; (3) toluene-or m xylylene-diisocyanate; (4) water and (5) a basic catalyst containing a tertiary nitrogen atom.
