Abstract

1,159,435. Polyol compositions containing tris-chloropropyl phosphate; polyurethane foams. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 22 Aug., 1966 [3 Sept., 1965], No. 37696/65. Headings C3C and C3R. Polyol compositions suitable for the preparation of polyurethane foams comprise at least one polyol having a molecular weight of at least 250 and, as a flame-proofing agent, a tris-chloropropyl phosphate. Particularly suitable polyols are those prepared by reaction of one or more alkylene oxides, such as ethylene oxide, epichlorohydrin, 1,2-propylene oxide, 1,2-butylene oxide and 2,3-butylene oxide, with a compound containing a plurality of active hydrogen atoms, such as water, ammonia, hydrazine, cyanuric acid, polyhydroxy compounds, aminoalcohols and polycarboxylic acids. Polyester-polyols may also be included, such as those prepared from dicarboxylic acids and polyhydric alcohols, and may contain amide groups introduced by including a proportion of diamine or aminoalcohol in the polyester-forming reaction mixture. The inclusion of a basic-reacting material, such as a tertiary amine, also improves the stability of the compositions, which can be reacted with organic polyisocyanates to form polyurethane foams, in the presence of other ingredients, such as halogenated hydrocarbons, water, silicone fluids, metal-containing catalysts, cross-linking agents free from tertiary amino groups, colouring matters, plasticizers, fillers and antioxidants.
