Abstract

916,510. Orientating articles. PAPER SACKS Ltd. Sept. 6, 1960 [Sept. 24, 1959], No. 32535/59. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] Apparatus for re-orientating articles includes a rotary wheel having a number of sets of radial arms of which each set is adapted to constitute in one position an articlereceiving station to receive articles arranged in at least two ranks, each rank extending in a direction parallel to the axis of the wheel, wherein the ranks are re-orientated by rotation of the wheel to form a single rank made up of at least two tiers of articles. Articles 1 are moved along a conveyer belt 2 to contact a stop 3 and are then forwarded by a reciprocating pusher 4 towards the wheel 5 having set of radial arms 6. When two ranks of articles have been received for a set of arms 6 the wheel 5 is rotated through a rightangle to leave the ranks in superimposed relationship on supporting fingers 9 attached to a reception platform 10. The superimposed ranks are pushed off on to the reception platform by further rotation of the wheel. When several such collections of articles have been received on the platform the batch so formed is pushed by a pusher plate 11 into the path of a plunger 12 which pushes the batch in a sack or carton held on a " duck bill " holder 13. On the return stroke of the pusher plate 11 a second batch is moved in front of a further plunger 12 mounted on the other side of the machine.
