Abstract

A mollusc destroying composition comprises as active ingredient the condensation product of halogenated aliphatic aldehydes, e.g. trichloro-acetic aldehyde (chloral), di-chloro-acetic aldehyde, mono-chloro-acetic aldehyde, tribromo-acetic aldehyde (bromal), with an amide, e.g. carbamide (urea), formamide or acetamide, an amine, e.g. ammonia, hydrazine, hydroxylamine or sugar, e.g. arabinose, galactose, glucose, mannose. Specified condensation products are di-chloral-carbamide (dichloral urea), mono-chloral carbamide and gluco-chloralose, chloral ammonia, chloral hydroxy amine, chloral oxime, bromal oxime, arabinochlorolose, galactochlorolose and monochlorolose. The composition may be in powder, granulated or tablet form and used as bait and may have incorporated therein attractive substances, e.g. cryptogamia, oil cakes and fruit wastes &c. Metaldehyde may be incorporated as a synergist and in one example penicillium notatum is also included.
