Abstract

<PICT:0915916/III/1> A wax extractor comprises means for s up porting the wax-containing material, e.g. honeycombs, so that the melted wax can flow away by gravity, means for straining residues from the molten wax, and means for simultaneously applying heat both above and below the material to be treated. As shown, a suitable embodiment comprises a steam-generator 1 having a sloping roof 4 on top of which is seated a chamber 2 containing a straining screen 14 on which is placed the material from which wax is to be extracted. Water in 1 is boiled by heating means 5, and the steam passed from outlet 7 by flexible pipe 22 to steam diffuser 21 provided in removable cover plate 12. Wax which melts passes through screen 14, runs down surface 4 and is drawn off through pipe 19 which passes downwardly through the hot water in 1. Alternatively, the wax may be run off directly from a partial extension of surface 4 which forms a spout through an aperture in wall 10 (not shown). In a further embodiment (not shown), the steam diffuser comprises an apertured narrow chamber running the full width of cover plate 12, and together with the steam feeder from steam generator 1, is formed integrally with cover plate 12, the steam outlet being positioned inside chamber 2, which also runs the full width of steam generator 1.
