A rotor 13 for a rotary cultivator of the kind in which the rotor is arranged to be obliquely transverse to the direction of motion and is driven so that the front of the rotor descends, is characterized in that at least two sets of blades 15 x 2 are provided, each blade being adapted to attack the ground edge-wise and having its outer end portion 15 x 3 laterally offset at an obtuse angle, the arrangement of the blades being such that a descending blade of one set will partially cut from the ground a clod of earth while an ascending blade of the adjacent set will engage under the partially cut clod to tear it free and turn it over.
