Abstract

689,985. Rotary cultivators. ROTARY HOES, Ltd. Aug. 28, 1951 [Sept. 30, 1950], No. 23970/50. Class 6(i) In a rotary cultivator of the type wherein the tools are carried by arms 12 on a transverse rotor 11, the tools are elongated chisel-like members 14 which are secured in holders 13 by wedges 17 so as to be adjustable lengthwise to compensate for wear. The tools have a hardened outer side and a softer inner side so as to be self-sharpening, and the wedges 17 have serrations 17b which bite into the softer metal. The arms 12 have sharpened leading edges 15 and reinforced trailing edges 16. The outermost tools on the rotor may be mounted obliquely to their direction of motion, to cut a clearance for the rotor end-plates. The rotor arms may be mounted on the shaft 11' in one or more helical lines.
