Abstract

Dispersion paints for wood comprise a film-forming aqueous dispersion of a vinyl polymer and an oily plasticizer with fungicidal and/or insecticidal action, the plasticizer being chloronaphthalene, a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon containing 40 to 60% by weight of chlorine or a mixture of these in amount of at least 33% by weight of the vinyl polymer. The vinyl polymer may be polyvinyl acetate or a copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride. Specified chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons are oily chlorinated paraffins and hexachlorocyclohexane. Additional substances having fungicidal or insecticidal properties may be dissolved in the oily plasticizer, e.g. phenol, pentachlorophenol, chlorodiphenyls, 8-hydroxyquinoline, 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate, and heavy metal oleates and naphthenates; or in the aqueous vehicle, e.g. fluorides, silicofluorides, acid fluorides, boric acid, thiocyanates, arsenites, arsenates, dichromates, sodium penta chlorophenoxide, phenyl mercury oleate or acetate and sodium b -naphthoxide. The paints may also comprise methyl cellulose and dyestuffs, pigments and fillers, e.g. chalk, talc, kieselguhr and titanium dioxide.ALSO:Fungicidal and/or insecticidal dispersion paints for wood comprise a film-forming aqueous dispersion of a vinyl polymer and an oily plasticizer with fungicidal and/or insecticidal action, the plasticizer being chloronaphthalene, a chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon containing 40 to 60 weight per cent of chlorine or a mixture of these in amount of at least 33 weight per cent of the vinyl polymer. The vinyl polymer may be polyvinyl acetate or a vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer. The plasticizer may be monochloronaphthalene, an oily chlorinated paraffin or hexachlorocyclohexane. Additional substances having fungicidal or insecticidal properties may be dissolved in the oily plasticizer, e.g. phenol, pentachlorophenol, chlorodiphenyls, 8-hydroxyquinoline and heavy metal oleates and naphthenates; or in the aqueous vehicle, e.g. fluorides, silicofluorides, acid fluorides, boric acid, thiocyanates, arsenites, arsenates, dichromates, sodium pentachlorophenoxide, 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate, phenyl mercury oleate or acetate and sodium b -naphthoxide.
