Abstract

915,619. Explosive compositions. ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd. Nov. 2, 1961 [Nov. 4, 1960], No. 39271/61. Class 9 (2). A blasting agent comprises an aqueous slurry having a water content of 7-25% by weight and containing a mixture comprising from 15-90% by weight of the mixture of a solid oxidant and from 10 to 85% of a smokeless powder explosive. The oxidant may be ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, sodium chlorate, sodium perchlorate, or ammonium perchlorate. The smokeless powder is preferably of the single-base type such as nitrocellulose (11-14% N), dinitrotoluene, dibutyl phthalate, and diphenylamine or it may be of the double base type containing also nitroglycerine. Non- explosive fuels such as powdered coal, aluminium, fuel oil, tall oil and ethylene glycol; and colloidal materials such as starch, wheat flour, guar gum or guar gum cross-linked with borax or alum may be added. The particle size is preferably from 0.04 to 0.3 inch in diameter to 0.1 to 0.8 inch in length.
