[Also in Group XVIII] A device for enabling a numerical reading to be obtained from the trace produced by a watch timing machine or similar instrument includes at least one mobile setting attachment 1 adapted to be moved over the trace to be read, thus causing a relative linear displacement of at least one graduated scale 8 and at least one pointer 9. As shown, the mobile setting attachment is a disc 1 rotatably mounted on an axis 3 on the upper side of the watch timing machine on the path of a moving paper tape 10 on which the machine prints a diagram 11 which is inclined in one or other direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the paper tape 10, according to how fast or slow the time piece under test is running. The disc is provided with parallel slits 2 and is illuminated from below. The disc 1 can be rotated by means of an endless cord 4 which is looped around the disc and around two pulleys 5, 5a having control knobs 6, 6a. A pointer 9 is fixed to the cord 4 between two guide rollers 7, 7a which are arranged at both ends of two parallel rectilinear scales 8, 8a graduated in seconds per 24 hours and tenths of a second per 24 hours respectively. To measure from the diagram how fast or slow the time piece under test is running, one of the control knobs is rotated to rotate the disc 1 until the slits 2 are brought into a position parallel to the printed line 11 on the tape 10. This will shift the pointer 9 on scales 8, 8a on one of which the operator can read directly the error in running. Alternatively, the pointer may be fixed and the scales movable. In a modification the rotatable disc is replaced by a member which is movable linearly.
