Abstract
915,053. Pneumatic shock absorbers. RIDLEY INDUSTRIAL Ltd. July 28, 1959 [May 3, 1958], No. 14209/58. Class 108(3). A cushioning device comprises an elastic sleeve 10, which may be peripherally corrugated, extending between plates 12, 13 at each end which clamp the sleeve, a non- return inlet valve 16, a calibrated restrictor orifice in the plates at one end and springs 17 which distend the sleeve 10 as they are compressed. A circular device is shown having six pairs of generally U-shaped springs provided around the inside of the sleeve. In an alternative device of rectangular plan form springs are provided at the ends and the top is formed integrally with the sides. The non-return inlet valve may also act as a pressure relief valve. The Provisional Specification describes a construction with a pair of nesting cylinders from which air escapes when the device is compressed through the working clearance or through one or more holes in the wall of one of the cylinders.
